Call for lifeguards as the summer season approaches in Heathcote

By Vanessa Wiltshire

AS the weather warms up, the outdoor pool season draws closer. In 2019/20 Heathcote's outdoor pool will be managed by Belgravia Leisure. And it is putting the call out for lifeguards; have you ever thought of becoming one?

Belgravia Leisure outdoor pools operations manager (Bendigo) Will Boyd said people can lifeguard at "just about every age".

“If you are 16 or older, can swim 200 metres or more, and are open to doing some training, including a first aid certificate, you are an excellent candidate,” he said. "There is lots of work available throughout the season.”

An information session will be held at Barrack Reserve at 5.30pm to 6.30pm on Thursday, October 10.

“We encourage anyone who is curious to come down and have a chat,” Will said.

“We are looking at two possible scholarships to help cover the cost of training as a lifeguard to assist people getting into the industry, too.

“As Belgravia is a larger organisation, it’s an excellent chance to get your foot in the door of the leisure industry.”
