Four times the best

By McIvor Times

GREG Speirs was named Heathcote Bowling Club’s best pennant player for the 2018/19 season — the fourth time he has won the accolade.

Following the last pennant game on March 2, the club held its vote count for the best pennant players with a good number of players and supporters in attendance.

In the weekend pennant votes it was a close count between Greg Speirs, Glen Wilkie and Sharyn Vowles, with Greg leading by just one vote after seven rounds.

Glen was in the lead by a vote after 12 rounds, but Greg’s strong finish to the season saw him awarded the maximum three votes in the last two rounds, to score him the title by two votes.

The final vote count results were: Greg Speirs 25 votes, Glen Wilkie 23 and Sharyn Vowles 20.

In the midweek pennant vote count, Dot Cutajar and Chris Cail had a close contest with Dot leading by three votes after seven rounds.

Chris finished strongly with votes in each of the last three rounds, however, Dot secured two votes in the last round to tie with Chris and share the best pennant player title.

The final vote count results were: Chris Cail and Dot Cutajar 18 votes, Rae Craig 15 and Sharyn Vowles 14.

The Heathcote Bowling Club would like to congratulate Greg Speirs on winning the weekend best pennant player for 2018/2019 — his fourth best pennant player title.

The club also congratulates Dot Cutajar and Chris Cail on being joint winners of the midweek best pennant player for 2018/2019.
