Pairs event a huge success

HEATHCOTE Golf Club held a 36-hole pairs tournament on Saturday with 64 golfers playing Ambrose Pairs and Foursomes.

The winners were A. Glatz and A. Berriman, with Heathcote players Kent Davies and Charles Davies coming in second after a countback with a score of 131-25, from P. DeAraungo and C. Grigson with 132-25.

Nearest the pins were won by A. Morris on the 2nd, S. Findlay on the 8th, J. Fullerton on the 13th, A. Levy on the 16th and C. Hanson on the 18th.

The club would like to extend many thanks to the Rifle Brigade Hotel, Homeware and Plants, The Ton-up club, Grounds Coffee and Ian Garland Hair Salon, who were the major sponsors of the tournament.

Thank you also, to other tournament sponsors whose names will be displayed in the club rooms very soon.

■ ON TUESDAY, February 19, the stableford winner was Ian Furneaux with 36 points off a handicap of 23.

Ball winners were Shane Morris 38, David Baldock 34 and Brian Gunn 34.

Birdies were scored by Brad Gunn on the 16th and Rob Wood on the 18th. Rob also won the nearest the pin on the 18th. It was good to see visitors from Belvoir Park, Neangar Park and from Queensland.

The club would like to welcome a new member in Nick Batchelor.

■ WEDNESDAY’S ladies stableford event was won by Dawn Hudson who scored 39 playing off a handicap of 33.

The runner-up was Amanda Long with 36 off a handicap of 31. Cathy Shaddock won the second shot on the 18th.

■ THURSDAY’S stableford division one winner was Adrian King who carded a great score of 41 points playing off a handicap of 10.

The runner-up in division one was Bill Ring with 39 off 17.

Charles Davies was the winner in division two with 37 off 22, with Ian Furneaux the runner-up scoring 37 off 23. Ball winners were Adrian Goudie 37, Chris Phillips 37, Paul Rolfe 36 and Kent Davies 36. Eagles were scored by Kurtis Lynch on the 10th and Adrian King on the 1st.

Birdies were scored by Mick Tobin on the 10th and Adrian King on the 16th. John Blundell and Charles Davies both scored pars and Charles was nearest the pin on the 18th.

Wednesday, March 13: Breast Cancer Week Ladies Golf event; and

Saturday, March 16: Breast Cancer Week Mixed Golf event. This is a worthy cause as both ladies and men die from this disease each year, so dig out your pink gear and decorate your buggies to support a good cause and have some fun.
