Div three back on winner’s list

HEATHCOTE Bowling Club’s division three side played Castlemaine at Heathcote on Saturday and in windy conditions returned to the winner’s list with a 34-shot win.

Heathcote 110 defeated Castlemaine 78

Greg Speirs 25 defeated R Noble 22

John McGillivray 23 drew with B Jury 23

Bill Gardiner 28 defeated C Frost 18

Brian Taylor 36 defeated R Fletcher 15

The game went down to the wire for the team skipped by Greg Speirs. Scores were level on the 10th, 13th and 23rd ends with Greg’s team trailing by a single shot by the last end.

On the very last shot of the day and with the game firmly in the balance, Greg demonstrated outstanding skill, removing the Castlemaine shot ball to score four shots for Heathcote, thus delivering the team a three-shot victory.

John McGillivray’s team started slowly and trailed by 10 shots by the 13th end. Fortunately, the team gradually fought back and trailed by just a single shot on the 24th end.

John’s team managed to score a shot on the last end to draw the game at 23 shots all.

Bill Gardiner’s rink started well and by the 17th end led by 13 shots. Shots and ends were then shared, with the final result a 10-shot win for the locals.

Brian Taylor’s team won the first two ends, then lost the next two. The team then dominated, winning the next 15 ends to record an impressive 21-shot win.

Division six.

Heathcote travelled to play top team Campbells Creek and in close game went down by only two shots.

Rae Craig’s team started slowly and trailed by 10 shots after six ends and despite their best efforts and victories in the last two ends, the team still lost by eight shots.

Eileen O’Brien’s team started well scoring five shots on the 4th end and led by eight shots after 14 ends. Eileen’s team scored another five shots on the 18th end to record a 13-shot win.

Denise Anderson’s team made a slow start and trailed by 11 shots by the 15th end. The team bravely battled on and won the last two ends to lose by only seven shots.

Sharyn Vowles’ team lost the first four ends and trailed by 10 shots by the 10th end. Fortunately, the team then lifted and won the last two ends to draw the game.

Sharyn Vowles 31 defeated D Hendy 11

Chris Cail’s team lost the first three ends but by the 13th, led by eight shots. Chris’ team continued to control the game, winning the last end to record a 10-shot victory.

Sharyn Vowles’ team won the first three ends and by the 14th end led by 11 shots. The opposition only managed to win three subsequent ends and Sharons team won by an impressive 20 shots.

Denise Anderson’s team won the first three ends, however by the 14th end only a shot separated the two teams. However, Denise’s team were not there to be beaten and won the last three ends to snap up a four-shot victory.

Minor Club Championship.

On Sunday, in near perfect weather conditions, the Minor Club Championship was contested between Sharyn Vowles and Dinah Finn.

After an even start, Sharyn gained the lead towards the end to win the match. The Heathcote Bowling Club congratulates Sharyn on winning the 2018/19 Minor Club Championship.
