THE men played a stroke event at Heathcote Golf Club last Saturday with Gerard Ellis winning in A grade.

Ellis won with a score of 73-5-68 and Troy Hickmont was the runner-up.

John Gaston won in B grade with 91-21-70, closely followed by David Baldock with 91-19- 72.

Balls were won by Dean Jones, Trevor Lambert, Daniel Pianta, Larry Maxwell and Paul Rolfe.

Nearest the pins were won by: Larry Maxwell on the 16th: Gerard Ellis on the 18th (A grade) and super pin; Greg Long on the 18th (B grade); and Ian Turner 18th (C grade).

It was a day for scoring birdies with Adrian King securing a birdie on the 2nd, Bryan Wearne on the 13th, 16th and 18th Bryan also scored a five-under 66 for the day.

Greg Long scored a birdie on the 13th and Gerard Ellis on the 18th.

The club welcomed new member Neil O’Keefe and visitors from St Andrews Beach, Rich River and Lancefield.

Saturday was a major prize day for the men and ladies, and the club is always grateful for the support given, even if this one was too shy to be identified. We thank you all the same.

■ THE Saturday Ladies also played for their Monthly Medal on January 5, with the result being a three-way tie between Carol Stuart, Amanda Long and Tristen Wearne — all ladies scoring 31 points.

Carol won the weekly competition with you guessed it, 31 points. Carol also won nearest the pin on the 18th.

■ THURSDAY’S (January 3) well-attended competition was won by Dean Jones with 38 points off a handicap of three.

The division two winner was Martin Sims, carding a great 40 points off a handicap of 28. Martin also won a par ball on the 18th hole.

Runners-up were Graeme Cusack in division one and Alan Stobaus in division two.

Ball competition winners were Steve Hudson, Phil Coleman, Greg Long, Brad Morgan and David Clouston.

Greg Long was on the money, also winning the super pin. Birdies were scored by Justin Gardener and Greg Long. Visitors were welcomed from Bendigo, Broadford and Romsey.

■ ON TUESDAY, January 1, the winning golfer was Colin Green from Axedale with 37 points.

Well done Colin and welcome to Heathcote.

Balls were awarded to Mitch Hogg, Adrian Goudie, Brian Davis, Justin Gardiner and Steve Ryan. Nearest the pin on the 18th was Mitch Hogg. Gerard Ellis and Colin Green scored birdies on the 13th hole.

A small group of ladies played for the midweek monthly medal on Wednesday January 2, with three of them having a “near death situation” when a large tree fell only metres away from them on the 14th hole. Fortunately, no one was injured, and Carol Stuart went on to win the medal with 31 points off a handicap of 19.
