If you have any gladrags and bling not worn for a while, tonight is a chance to drag them out.
Australia’s six-foot-something (1.8m) songstress Prada Clutch and her ‘‘girls’’ will arrive at Shepparton’s Eastbank Centre for a night of colour, feathers and music.
Prada’s Priscillas promises a journey from Les Girls in the 1960s, across the Aussie outback with Priscilla Queen of the Desert in the 90s and then into 2019 with a celebration of today’s pop music icons.
The 90-minute all-male revue from Sydney features some of the original movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert’s greatest hits including I Love the Nightlife, Go West, Shake Your Groove Thing, Finally and I Will Survive, plus a few surprise hits from some of today’s music icons and divas.
Prada Clutch has featured in stage shows across Australia, as well as in New Zealand.
She draws her inspiration from the likes of Dusty Springfield, Patti LaBelle, Bette Midler and Cher.
‘‘I was told early on in my career that I could not make a career out of drag — so I decided to prove the haters wrong,’’ she said.
‘‘I’ve worked as a professional drag queen now for 10 years and I’ve been touring my shows for the last few years. I could not be happier.’’
Prada said she was aware of Shepparton’s strong GLBTQI community and drag scene through involvement with GV Pride in the lead-up to the show.
‘‘I know some local queens are definitely coming along to the show, so I do expect a lot of cheers and maybe a few ‘yas queens’ too,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s a feel-good show — everyone leaves feeling uplifted and may even find themselves dancing in the aisles which we do encourage,’’ she said.
The show is creatively directed by one of Australia’s original Les Girls of Kings Cross, Monique Kelly. Monique was a member of Les Girls from 1973 to 1997.
The show features a cast of seven, choreographed by Stephen Clarke who has worked with Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Cyndi Lauper and Diana Ross.
Prada’s Priscillas starts at 8pm tonight at Shepparton’s Riverlinks Eastbank Centre, Welsford St. Tickets are $65 or $62 concession. To book, phone Riverlinks on 58329511. Under16s can attend if accompanied by an adult.
