HEATHCOTE police have impounded a Ford ute after it was detected speeding along the McIvor Highway in Derrinal on Friday night.
Officers noticed the ute breaking the speed limit at about 11pm.
They used a mobile radar and clocked the ute at 175 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
A distinctive fault with the ute’s tail-lights allowed officers to track it along the highway at a safe distance until the ute was slowed by traffic.
The vehicle was intercepted in High Street, Axedale and the 19-year-old driver from Sunbury spoken to.
He is expected to be charged on summons with dangerous speeding, exceeding the speed limit, careless driving and using an unregistered motor vehicle.
The ute was impounded and the driver faces towing costs of $905.
