GIRGARRE will host neighbour Stanhope in a high stakes Kyabram District League encounter this Sunday as the battle starts in earnest for a spot in the final six.
Girgarre kept its final hopes alive on Saturday with a fighting win over Undera.
The ’Roos finished the stronger to get up and pip the home side by a point with a 3.3 to 0.1 final term to be one of three sides on 28 premiership points currently jostling for a chance to play finals.
Lachy Hill, Nic Varcoe and Adam Hughes played significant roles in Girgarre’s win while Hayden Phillips, Josh Marino and Tom Walsh were also key contributors.
For Undera Shannon and Ash Hockey were prominent again along with Zac Brain, Nic McAuliffe and Kane Herbert.
■ MURCHISON-TOOLAMBA jumped into fourth spot on the ladder in the other game last Saturday with a thumping 228 points win over Longwood.
James Milne with 13 goals and James Peck with six did the finishing off work of Tom McCormick, Owen Cross, Tom Kerrins, Danny Moncur and Brayden Chessels in particular to secure the percentage boosting win.
Apart from this Sunday’s clash between Girgarre and Stanhope other crucial games this weekend will see Murchison-Toolamba take on Undera, Tallygaroopna host Merrigum and Dookie United tackle finals contender Lancaster.
All these games could have a bearing on final six make-up with five home-and-away rounds remaining.
