Campaspe kicks in with $100,000

By Riverine Herald

CAMPASPE Shire Council has handed over almost $100,000 to 40 community groups as part of the first round of the 2018/19 Community Grants Program in Echuca on Thursday.

Mayor Adrian Weston said that the program offered valuable financial assistance to support services, programs and events delivered by community groups, clubs and associations throughout the shire.

“It was great to see that we have so many community groups right across our shire that can gather together and share some exciting details on their special projects to improve their services, facilities and activities for the benefit of the whole Campaspe community,” he said.

Lockington and District Bush Nursing Centre received $4000 for the installation of solar panels on their roof.

‘‘It’s going to make a big difference to us in terms of cost – decreasing our electricity bills,’’ representative Darren Carnie said.

‘‘It’s a win for the environment as well.’’

Lisa Baker from the Echuca Basketball Association said $5000 will go towards the Echuca Basketball Junior Tournament.

“We have more than 100 teams which brings 1000 young players plus their families to the area for three days so a massive event for us and hopefully it will be bigger and better this year,” she said.

Grants were presented in two categories – community support and events.

Round two of the Community Grants Program opens on August 1 and will see the introduction of online applications.
