Cats pipped at the death

It was an important game for both sides heading into the last third of the season and the winner would set themselves up for a spot in the top five.

The game was set to be a mini final and that is how it played out, there was no holding back from both sides as the crowd was entertained by a high standard game. The Cats held narrow leads at the quarter and half time breaks but the mountain men took a 15-point lead into the last break. When the mountain men kicked the first goal in the last term it was always going to be tough for the Cats to come back from almost four goals down.

To our guys’ credit they kicked the next five goals and took control of the game, looking like they had pinched the win. The importance of the game was not lost on Mitta though and they kicked the final two goals - the last one inside the last minute of play to grab themselves an important victory and make it very hard for the Cats to pinch a finals birth this year.

It wasn’t the way the boys wanted to celebrate Chris Oats and Seamus Bromley playing 150 senior games for the club, but I’m sure once the disappointment of the one-point loss subsides, all from around the club will appreciate the achievements of these two fantastic guys.

Under 17s

Rutherglen 18.14.122 def Mitta United 4.1.25

The Cats Under 17s notched up their second win for the season with an excellent 16-goal victory. The win was just reward for the hard work and persistence of the players and coaches through what has been a very challenging season due to injuries to key players. Jack Andison was again dominant finishing with five goals. Darcy Williams and James Plummer were also very good in what was an even performance by all the boys. As players return to the side the results will show a more accurate reflection on the quality of the Under 17 players at Barkly Park. Well done boys.
