Burglary at Heathcote Post Office

By Vanessa Wiltshire

THE Heathcote Post Office was broken into on Friday night.

The burglars attempted to break into the safe, causing significant damage.

Up to eight parcels were tampered with or opened.

Heathcote Post Office owner Bryan Linnell said that while there were restricted services, the facility was open for business.

“As disappointing and upsetting as it is, this is unfortunately part of the risk in retail,” Brian said.

“We’ve been able to open the newsagency and post office, but there has been significant inconvenience to customers,” he said.

“We’ve had to use some of our money to buy stamps and ensure there is cash in the till.

“But other than this, we’re trying to be positive. No one was onsite at the time - for that we’re grateful.”

The three burglars were wearing hoodies, which will make identification difficult.

Police are continuing their investigations and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in that part of town on Friday night.

They can call Heathcote police on 5433 3711 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
