Help create a dementia friendly community

By Vanessa Wiltshire

DID you know that there are currently more than 413,000 Australians living with dementia? The majority can, and do, live in the community.

However, people with dementia can feel socially isolated and wish they had more opportunities to interact with people in the community and to participate in social or other activities.

With the support of their employer, community, local businesses and organisations, neighbours, and friends and family members, people with dementia can continue to do many of the things they did before they received a diagnosis.

On Tuesday 18 June, Dementia Australia, in conjunction with Heathcote Dementia Friendly Village and Heathcote Health, will deliver a workshop to increase awareness and understanding of dementia.

The workshop will also discuss the rise of ‘dementia friendly communities’ and benefits for Heathcote community groups and businesses.
