SUTTON Grange-Redesdale Rd is closed for the Mount Alexander Shire to replace culverts that will reduce the impact of flooding from James Creek.
The road is closed between Jennings Hill Rd and Myrtle Creek Rd, with works including rehabilitation of a 100-metre stretch of road.
Council has said construction will continue through to late July; local traffic will be permitted up to the edge of the construction site.
Nearby property owners and emergency services have been informed and council said it apologises for the inconvenience.
A detour around the closed section of road will be along Bendigo-Sutton Grange Rd, Metcalfe-Elphinstone Rd, Metcalfe-Redesdale Rd and Racecourse Rd.
Detour signage will be in place and drivers are urged to allow an extra 20 minutes’ travel time.
The culverts were identified for rehabilitation as part of council’s road and bridge assessment. Works were planned to avoid road closure during the high fire-danger period.
