Lawn bowlers defy weather for a social game

DESPITE the wintry conditions setting in, Heathcote Bowling Club is still seeing some good numbers turning up to play social bowls.

In cold and windy conditions on Wednesday, 12 hardy bowlers played three games of pairs. The winners were Chris Cail (s) and Steve Hudson (three wins, 45 points, +9 shots). Runners-up were John McGillivray (s) and Brett Mathieson (two wins, 31 points, +3 shots) from Nev Smith (s) and Les Morante (two wins, 31 points, +2 shots). The jackpot was not won.

On Saturday in cold conditions, 15 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples. The winners were Bill Gardiner (s), Ellis Knight and Alan Perry (3 wins, 43 points, +12 shots). The runners-up were Paul Mason (s) and Brett Mathieson (2 wins, 36 points, +12 shots) from Dot Cutajar (s) and Brian Taylor (2 wins, 33 points, +5 shots). The jackpot was not won and will be $45 today.

Winter Tournament.

On Sunday June 3, the first of the winter tournaments will be held and more teams and players are needed.

The two bowls triples tournament will start at 10am and further winter tournaments will be held on the first Sunday of July and August.

Annual General Meeting.

The AGM of the Heathcote Bowling Club will be held at the clubrooms on Sunday, May 27 starting at 2pm. All members are welcome.

Today: Mixed social bowls at 1pm.

Saturday, May 26: Mixed social bowls at 1pm.

Sunday, May 27: AGM at 2pm.

Sunday, June 3: Two bowls triples tournament at 10am.
