THE sun was shining and so were Heathcote’s littlest Saints on Saturday, when the under 12 football side took on St Thereses in the final grading game.
Captain Tommy Johnson led the team through the banner for his 50th game and what a stellar performance the team put in.
Ollie Ayres was quick out of the blocks early, securing the first goal for the Saints and he received great support from fellow Jesse Bruce. There was outstanding teamwork from some of Heathcote’s smallest players — Jimmy Pringle, Lexi Jorgensen-Neave and Damian Ryan-May which resulted in a Ryan Foster “don’t argue” snap for another.
Taylor Maiden helped Tommy Johnson score the third goal for the team just before the hooter sounded to end the first term.
After St Thereses came out hard early Nicholas Musullo, Ami Burgess and Matilda Edsall-French put in the hard yards and showed real grit to get their team back into the game.
Tanika Cook, Blake Maiden and Callum Devine tackled strongly and an after the siren goal from Johnson was a great way to end the term.
In the third term Isaac Miller, Brock Cassidy, Archer Obst and Jack Conway were amongst the action and the girls banded together. Lexi, Ami, Tilly and Tanika all helped Taylor score her first goal for the Saints.
St Thereses continued to press but the Saints were working hard and went into the final term with a good lead. Nick Hansson, Harry Ferguson, Harlan Tavinor and Xavier Moore combined well to get the ball to Nicholas Musullo made no mistake.
Final Scores: Heathcote 7.10 (52) defeated St. Thereses 1.5 (11)
