Devoted volunteers made house a home

Heathcote Community House volunteers Penny and Denis Parker with co-ordinator Vicki Forde.

STAFF and volunteers of the Heathcote Community House shared a lunch and farewelled two committed volunteers.

Penny and Denis Parker have been volunteering at the house for more than 10 years and they had a few tales to share.

Past and present volunteers were on hand to say farewell, as the group shared fond memories from throughout the years.

“Penny and Denis have been part of so many events, initiatives, programs and activities over the years and were instrumental in getting our garden maintenance crew up and running, to help others in our community who needed a hand with their garden maintenance,” Heathcote Community House co-ordinator Vicki Forde said.

“No matter what time of the morning, night, weekday or weekend, we could always rely on this fabulous duo.”

Penny and Denis have also been on hand to mentor many young people, as well as many newcomers to the region, who came to volunteer — and many have been given advice on employment vacancies around the area too.

“They will be missed by all, but they promise to come and visit regularly and are still on hand if we have any urgent need — bless their cotton socks, we can think up many urgencies,” Ms Forde said.

“Heathcote Community House has been fortunate with such great volunteers, coming and going as our needs require, and we look forward to welcoming more.”

Currently there are ample volunteering opportunities for locals at the community house, and these do change from time to time depending on the need.
