LOCALS are being encouraged to make every cuppa count this May or June by hosting a tea for Cancer Council Victoria.
To mark the 25th year of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, this year’s official Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea date is May 24, but events can be held throughout May and June.
Cancer Council Victoria is hoping to recruit 7900 hosts and raise $3.3 million for cancer research, prevention programs and support services.
On average 675 people are diagnosed with cancer in Greater Bendigo every year; the funds raised through Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea will help provide support to them as well as their families and friends.
Andrew Buchanan, head of fundraising at Cancer Council Victoria, said morning tea hosts have had an incredible impact on cancer outcomes in 25 years.
“Supporters have raised more than $30 million since the event began in 1994, helping to increase Victoria’s cancer survival rates by almost 20 per cent,” he said.
“Every minute, every hour, every day someone is impacted by cancer — and with the support of the community we are able to continue our vital work in cancer research, prevention and support services.’’
