Tough gig for Saints’ girls: White Hills after Huntly loss

May 09, 2018

WALKING over to the netball courts at Huntly on the weekend we were all greeted by a sea of pink streamers and notes.

Huntly was celebrating its pink day and on behalf of the club we would like to thank them for promoting such a worthy cause.

A very strong Huntly A grade combination was always going to be a tough ask, but after Mounts the previous week the team was ready.

But another slow start put them on the back foot – a mistake that must be rectified before the girls front up against the powerful White Hills this weekend and contributing to the 31-56 loss.

Annalyse Carroll and Felicity Hasthorpe presented under the goal at every opportunity but had to work hard against a strong Huntly defensive unit.

Coach Lorrae Closter was busy all day in centre and tried to get the team back into a winning position but the slow start had given Huntly too much of a break.

The overworked defence was well led by Tanya O’Halloran but the height of the Huntly shooters was always a challenge.

In a really positive sign the last quarter belonged to Heathcote, and if they can jump out of the blocks and get an early advantage the team is not far from claiming a big scalp.

Tyler McKeown continued her great start to the year with a best on court performance in wing attack.
