THE ladies played a stableford competition at Heathcote Golf Club on Saturday on a superb golfing day.
Sue Green made the most of the conditions, scoring 37 points to win from first runner-up Amanda Long on 36 points with Dot Trott’s 35 points earning her the second runner-up position.
Margaret Sims secured the NTP 8th hole with her best shot of the day.
The men arrived to do battle for the April Monthly Medal and the singles k/o qualifying round on Saturday.
Captain Larry set the course up at its very longest but the players responded to the challenge.
In a close contest Justin Gardiner took out division one, scoring 86-15-71 and Joe Zurek was the medal and division two winner with 93-23-70.
Ball winners were: John Mugavin, John Dunn, Alan Stobaus, Willie Laird, Adrian Goudie and Bryan Wearne. Birdie balls went to Alan Stobaus (16th) and Kent Davies (18th).
David Clouston’s tee shot to one metre on the 6th earned him an eagle and Richard Higginbottom claimed an 18th hole par ball. NTPs were Paul Rolfe (13th), David Clouston (16th) and at the 18th: Adrian Goudie (A grade and superpin), Adrian King (B grade) and John Mugavin (C grade).
Singles knockout match-ups are as follows: Joe Zurek v David Clouston, John Mugavin v Martin Sims, Willie Laird v John Dunn and Adrian Goudie v Alan Stobaus.
Mt Ida Challenge Cup
The Mt Ida Challenge Cup attracted a good field of ladies keen to challenge the course on Friday.
Teams from Axedale, Belvoir Park, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Gisborne (2), Hilltop, Kyabram Parkland, Nagambie (2), Neangar Park, Rich River and Heathcote entered.
This tournament started in 1984 with the cup being donated by Marlene Hendy and Kaye Wilkie.
The winning team this year was from Gisborne with Kerry Peterson, Angela Alcock and Roberta Henry posting a total of 90 points to win from the Axedale Golf Club runners-up (Ruth Iser, Pam Davies and Anne Telford) on 89 points.
The A grade singles event was won by Suzanne Velk (Gisborne No. 2) with 34 points and Amanda Long (Heathcote) won B grade with 37 points.
NTPs went to Prue Skinner (Neangar Park) on the 8th, Amanda Long (16th) and Marj Long (Gisborne No. 1) was closest on the 18th hole. Kerry Peterson (Gisborne No. 1) muscled the ball down the 11th fairway to take out the longest drive.

■ AN EXCELLENT field of 28 players including three visitors enjoyed the autumn sunshine on Thursday.
Kris Mueck returned a gross 66, nett 70 to win division one and the consistent David Baldock went several better in division two with 86-19-67. Ball winners were: John Blundell 70 nett, Alan Stobaus 70, Kent Davies 71, Brian Davis 71. Steve Ditullio (Seymour Golf Club) 71, Adrian Goudie 72 and Alan Purdon 72. Birdie balls went to Terry Shiels (6th), Kent Davies (8th and 13th) and Brad Evorall (18th). John Blundell took home his routine 18th hole par ball and Brian Stobaus won the encouragement award.
■ THE ladies played a Monthly Medal, second round Silver Spoon and Grace Plane putting event on Wednesday.
Amanda Long posted an impressive 103-32-71 to win the medal from runner-up Helen Carlin 101-27-74. Helen won the putting contest with a miserly 25 strokes on the closely mown grass as well as being closest on the 8th hole. Amanda won the 18th hole NTP (open) and Carol Stuart birdied the 13th.
A singles k/o match was played on Tuesday with Carol Stuart in splendid touch, easily accounting for Amanda Long 6/4.
AN OPEN stableford event on Easter Monday at Heathcote Golf Club attracted 12 players including a trio from Neangar Park Golf Club.
Adrian Goudie continued his great form with 36 points to edge out Justin Gardiner and Geoff Cutting both on 35 points. Birdie balls went to John Dunn (8th and 13th). NTP went to Malcolm Barnes (Neangar Park Golf Club) and Adrian King was the NAGA recipient.

Thursday, April 12: Mens stroke midweek medal and fourth round of midweek championships.
