Eastern visitors claim tournament

BENDIGO East won a tournament played at Heathcote Bowling Club on Thursday.

In near perfect weather conditions,14 teams played two games of 10 ends plus one game of 12 ends.

Visiting teams travelled from Strathfieldsaye, Bendigo East, Golden Square, Kilmore, Seymour, Castlemaine and Campbells Creek.

At the end of play, five teams had won all three games played and these were: Joan Judd (Bendigo East), Lorraine Speirs (Heathcote), Sylvia Lord (Bendigo East), Betty Bodinnar (Bendigo East) and Eileen O’Brien (Heathcote).

The team from Bendigo East was declared the winner on the points system and comprised Joan Judd (s), Peter Judd and Alby Clough (three wins, 54 points, +36 shots). Runners-up from Heathcote were Lorraine Speirs (s), Smokey Dawson and Greg Speirs (three wins, 51 points, +32 shots).

The bowling club would like to thank APIA and Bill Dent Water Carrier for their joint sponsorship of this successful tournament.

Social Bowls:

In warm conditions on Wednesday, 19 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples.

The only team to win all three games was Sharon Arnold (s) and Rod Hanson (three wins, 45 points, +13 shots). Runners-up Smokey Dawson (s), Chris Morcom and Neville Smith (two wins, 33 points, +9 shots) from Ray Anderson (s), Ellis Knight and Les Morante (two wins, 31 points, +3 shots). The jackpot was not won.

On Saturday in fine and warm conditions, 18 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples.

Four teams won two games and on the points system the winners were Paul Mason (s) and Ken Reader (two wins, 32 points, +4 shots).

Runners-up were Peter Cunningham (s) and Ellis Knight (2 wins, 32 points, +3 shots). The jackpot was not won and will be $200 today.
