GOULBURN Murray Water (GMW) said it has taken down the blue-green algae warning for Lake Eppalock following a significant decline in the blue-green algae levels there.

“This is welcome and timely news for the many holiday-makers who visit Lake Eppalock,’’ GMW general manager customer operations Scott Barber said.

‘‘It was removed in time for the crowds who visited the area during Easter and will be welcome news for those who go there during the autumn school holidays,” Mr Barber said.

“A blue-green algae warning had been in place for Lake Eppalock since December, and unfortunately that also impacted on some of the many recreational activities on the lake,” Mr Barber said.

“So we are pleased to report that our most recent water quality monitoring testing has allowed for the warning to be lifted. GMW will continue to undertake regular water quality monitoring.”

Keep up to date with current blue-green algae warnings at gmwater.com.au/news/bga or call the GMW blue-green algae hotline on 58263785.

A blue-green algae warning remains current for Laanecoorie Reservoir, Cairn Curran Reservoir and Hepburns Lagoon.

Mr Barber said customers are also reminded that water supplied by GMW is not suitable for human consumption without first being properly treated.
