“Men’s Sheds give men a chance to come together, give back to the community and talk or learn about what matters to them,” Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp said.

AS SOME men grow older they begin to lose touch with their friends and can sometime fall into a path of loneliness.

In some cases, men all over Australia have been able to dig themselves out of this rut by joining a Men’s Shed.

Men’s Shed is an organisation that provides safe and productive spaces for men to work on common projects, form friendships and give back to their community, with almost 1,000 sheds across the country and more than 360 in Victoria.

Around 15,000 people attend a shed in Victoria each day.

Currently, Heathcote does not have a shed registered with the organisation.

However with new grants announced last week, now might be the time.

The state government announced $885,000 in funding is up for grabs, with a focus on regional areas.

Up to $60,000 is available per case to build new Men’s Sheds, and up to $30,000 to upgrade or refurbish existing ones.

“Men’s Sheds give men a chance to come together, give back to the community and talk or learn about what matters to them,” Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp said.

“I strongly encourage local groups in Northern Victoria to apply for funding and help build our Men’s Sheds network.’’

Applications close on June 8.
