HEATHCOTE Cricket Club took out the Northern United Cricket Association 2017/18 premiership on Saturday when it defeated Bagshot in a tense and high pressure grand final at Elmore.
It was Heathcote’s third premiership in five years and was won on the back of a superb bowling perforamance.
Bagshot won the the toss and opted to bat but seven wickets between Heathcote’s Kyle Siedel and Brenton Conforti saw Bagshot blasted out for just 92.
The Heathcote batsmen were scratchy in reply, losing wickets at regular intervals to be 6/60 with the game still in the balance.
However, the lower order of Nick Malavisi, Shane Cox and Brayden Klemke held firm to see the Saints home.
It was a remarkable performance for Heathcote, which had only snuck into finals contention after finishing fourth on the ladder this season but found form at the right time to claim the ultimate prize.
A semi-final win over top side Elmore instilled confidence in the Heathcote players that the premiership was within their reach.
