THE finals of the Heathcote Bowling Club’s ladies’ and men’s pairs championships were contested last week in windy conditions.
In the ladies, Chris Cail (s) and Lorraine Speirs defeated Rae Craig (s) and Dot Cutajar.
After an even start Rae and Dot slowly took control and by the 13th end led by eight shots. Chris and Lorraine fought back, scoring 3 shots on the 18th (last) end to level the scores and forcing a one end play-off.
In the play-off, Chris and Lorraine scored four shots to win the 2017/18 Ladies Pairs Championship.
In the men’s, Glen Wilkie (s) and Kelvin Hamilton played Rod Hanson (s) and Ray Anderson. The game started evenly until the 10th end when Glen and Kelvin scored five shots.
Although ends and shots were then shared the lead was too big and Glen and Kelvin held on to win the 2017/18 Men’s Pairs Championship.
On Thursday in cool and windy conditions, Lorraine Speirs and Dinah Finn played in the final of the Minor Championship.
After an even start Lorraine then took control to open a handy seven-shot lead by the 10th end. Despite Dinah’s best efforts Lorraine went on to win the 2017/18 championship.
Congratulations to Lorraine Speirs for her fantastic achievement in taking out the hat-trick, winning the ladies championship, minor championship and the ladies pairs championship for 2017/18!
On Wednesday in hot and humid conditions, 12 handy bowlers played 3 games of pairs and triples.
The winners were Ray Anderson (s) and Sharyn Arnold (three wins, 43 points, +11 shots).
The runners-up were Greg Speirs (s), Eileen O’Brien and Ellis Knight (two wins, 32 points, +1 shot). The jackpot was not won.
On Saturday in hot and windy conditions, three games of pairs were played by 12 bowlers.
The winners were Eileen O’Brien[s] and Greg Speirs (two wins, 36 points, +24 shots). The runners-up were Smokey Dawson (s) and Lorraine Speirs (two wins, 32 shots, +6 shots).
Again, the jackpot was not won and will be $200 today.
