THE Mitchell Shire will roll out four new age-friendly projects to make the community more senior minded.
Seven Positive Ageing Ambassadors chatted with local seniors to find out what they enjoyed about their community, what limited their participation, and how their community could be more age-friendly. Over 500 people also responded to a community survey, with the results used to form four key projects.
They will be:
■ a communication and information project, using the web and social media to improve access for seniors;
■ a pop-up cinema that can be hired by community groups;
■ information sessions about booking the Bendigo Bank Community Bus; and
■ ensuring that more bench seats are set up in main streets and a review of disabled car parks.
“The feedback we received from our senior community identified a range of barriers to participating in their community — health, age, mobility and outdoor spaces and buildings,” Mitchell Shire Mayor Ronda Sanderson said.
“The age-friendly projects were then developed in response to this feedback..”
