The Axedale Historic Loop Walk will stop at the Axedale Racecourse for refreshments.

THE O’Keefe Challenge will have several new events this year including the Axedale Historic Loop Walk. This event provides the opportunity to get the family together and discover the history of Axedale. Participants will learn the fascinating history of the town as they follow the loop and hear from historical characters and interact with the environment.

There are signs located at various points along the loop, which gives the participant the opportunity to interact through augmented reality, as they listen to the stories of some of the early Axedale settlers.

Walkers can download the app and collect all the Platypus stickers and add them to their in-app sticker book. They can also play a game of memory with cards featuring some landmarks and characters that they will see and meet along the loop — or if they prefer, they can simply answer the questions on their registration brochure and go in the draw to win one of the many mystery prizes.

The trail meanders along the river reserve, and if lucky a platypus or two might be spotted, along with several of the local endangered species: Fazzi the brush tailed phascogale, Priscilla the powerful owl and Axel the local platypus. Historical characters will also greet participants along the trail. The racecourse station master will have refreshments, and at the cemetery the pastor will show where some of Axedale’s notable characters have been laid to rest. The trail is approximately 7km and will finish at the Axedale Tavern, where there will be an opportunity for the children to collect their bag of gold and the adults can partake in a devonshire tea or perhaps something a little stronger.

The event is an untimed, fun, social event for people of all ages and abilities. For more information or to register visit theokeefe.com.au
