Veterans in town for cricket match

February 01, 2018

WHAT’S better than normal cricket? Veteran’s cricket.

A team of players aged over 60 from Warrandyte is coming to the Heathcote Cricket Ground at Barrack Reserve to compete against a Victorian Country over 60’s team.

The match will be round 13 of a 16-game home-and-away season.

Victoria Country fields a team each Sunday in the regular competition and their players travel all over Victoria each week to compete.

The Victorian Country over 60s Cricket Club fields players from as far west as Colac, Horsham and Ararat, and as far north as Wangaratta and Echuca, with the main source of the club based in the Bendigo area.

The game will start at 11am and will be a 40-over a side match. Batting and bowling restrictions apply with batsmen retiring at 40 and bowlers only permitted to bowl a maximum of eight overs.

Victoria Country Over 60s Cricket Club is always looking for new players and should any players either still playing or retired, would like a game, feel free to contact Bill Johnson at [email protected] or 0431 957 339 at any time.

Cricket is Australia’s number one participation sport and veteran’s cricket is its fastest growing market in recent years. With the backing of Cricket Australia, Veterans Cricket Victoria is seeing thousands of Victorians back out on the park enjoying the game of cricket against blokes their own age.
