Early morning tee-offs produce some cool scores

SATURDAY’S field of seven ladies all posted morning scores at Heathcote Golf Club and the sunrise focused on Carol Stuart with her 33 points.

In runner-up position was June Roberts on 32. The tee shot of Margaret Sims on the 8th hole that found the front of the green was sufficient to win her the NTP.

In the men’s, a number of cool dudes played early morning to beat the heat but the desert foxes of the afternoon carried the day.

Phil Coleman claimed the title of best fox in the den with his 40. Balls were thrown to Adrian King 38, Gerard Ellis 38, Adrian Goudie 36 and Greg Long 36.

NTPs went to Garry Boyes (13th), Kent Davies (16th) and at the 18th hole Gerard Ellis won A grade and superpin with Greg Long being closest in B grade.

Birdies were scored by David Clouston and John Dunn (8th), Gerard Ellis (16th) and David Clouston, Gerard Ellis and Greg Long (18th).

Should the course receive a trophy?

Greg Crump and his equally hard-working band of volunteers have seemingly worked wonders with the course.

In a period of extremely hot and windy weather the grass on both the greens and fairways is exceptionally strong and healthy resulting in a course that is an absolute pleasure to play on. However, smart players will avoid the rough that also has a good strong cover of grass. Well-manicured Greg and helpers!

Wednesday, January 17:

Seven ladies played a stableford round last Wednesday. It was good to see Regina Driver back on the winner’s list with her well compiled 33pts edging out runner-up Jan Case on 31pts.

Thursday, January 18:

The hot weather reduced the field to 11 brave men on Thursday. The best of the brave was ‘Mr President’ Garry Boyes with his excellent 41.

Garry also took out the 18th hole NTP and superpin to clearly establish himself as the alpha male for the day.

Ball winners were David Clouston 38, Brian Davis 37, John Gastin 36 and Larry Maxwell 36.

Birdie ball to Brian Davis at the 2nd. Ian Furneaux was the ‘low wolf’ with 24.
