HEATHCOTE Inn has reopened for business — and is featuring a brand new look.
Originally the local squash courts, the building has seen several incarnations throughout the years, becoming backpackers accommodation and, eventually, a guesthouse.
In April 2017, Melissa Fisher from Drouin, Gippsland and her team took over.
Working closely with local trades, they have transformed the space into pristine ‘‘modern country’’ accommodation.
Melissa doesn’t hesitate when asked why she decided to set up a business in Heathcote.
‘‘Heathcote’s a beautiful area. When we looked at Heathcote we thought, why not? There’s an opportunity and a need here.’’
She said they had worked hard to capture the essence of Heathcote in the new decor.
‘‘We wanted an organic, modern country feel,’’ she said.
‘‘We’re not the Sofitel — we just want this to have a lovely atmosphere where people can come and chill at the bar, relax in the pool or stay overnight.
‘‘You don’t get this in Melbourne. This is what people leave Melbourne for.’’
Featuring 13 tranquil rooms, a pool and a stylish bar, Ms Fisher said the next step is to develop a restaurant at the inn.
‘‘My brother owns restaurants and is a business partner. Our whole idea is to eventually set up a restaurant and work with fresh, local produce,’’ she said.
