Competitors in last year's O'Keefe Challenge.

PLANS are well under way for 2018’s O’Keefe Challenge.

For the runners, organisers say they have the popular favourites including the marathon, half marathon and mile events.

They are introducing several new events, they have opened up the 10km event for both runners and walkers and there is an opportunity for the walking enthusiast to complete the marathon.

Families can also enjoy the opportunity to take part in the Axedale Historic Walk, where they will be greeted by some of the locals.

There are two new events for cyclists. For those seeking a new and thrilling experience there is Light the Trail, a night ride from Axedale to Heathcote, and for the family there is the Scavenger Hunt. This will take place on one of Heathcote’s new trails, cycling through the liquid ambers and a visit to pink cliffs. There is lots of fun to be had and loads of prizes to be won.

All events will finish on the oval, where there will be loads of community activities and events to keep the spectators and family members amused and entertained while waiting for their family member or friend to finish their challenge.

The area outside the oval will be transformed into a village green, with a kids’ zone for both parents and children to take time out and nibble on some of the delicacies provided by our local schools. A village market will be open, providing an opportunity to sample some healthy food options and to grab some bargains, and a wet area will be available for visitors and locals to partake in a glass of local wine or try some of our local craft beer.

There will be new creatively designed finisher medals for all our participants too. To check out the event’s new branding, visit theokeefe.com.au, and if you would like to volunteer your services and be part of this event call Tracey Bowen at [email protected], or call 0417 055 080.
