COLIBAN Water has been working closely with the community to develop a 50-year water security plan.
Holding more than 20 meetings with customers, local councils, traditional owners, sustainability groups and progress associations since releasing its Urban Water Strategy in July, Coliban Water has discussed our region’s water security in depth.
“Our Urban Water Strategy is our 50-year plan to secure water for future generations in light of the challenges facing the region, such as climate change and population growth,” chief operating officer Neville Pearce said.
“Our customers, councils and community groups played an integral part in shaping our strategy so it is important that we reconnected with these communities to make sure their views were included.
“Water security is a top priority for our communities. Over the past three months, we have met with local councils in our region, the Dja Dja Wurrung, North Central Catchment Management Authority, Bendigo Sustainability Group and other customer associations and community groups, including a community water forum we held in Trentham.’’
Water corporations across Victoria review their Urban Water Strategy every five years. The strategies are a part of the Victorian government’s Water for Victoria plan to ensure water is managed to support a healthy environment, a prosperous economy and thriving communities.
