Heathcote’s story of its sporting glory

December 20, 2017

WITH Christmas just days away, the perfect gift for Heathcote has come onto the market.

The book From A Town Divided To A Team United covers 50 years of football and netball in Heathcote.

Written by Darren Lewis after months of patiently trawling the pages of the McIvor Times, of the club’s own records and sorting through private memorabilia, Mr Lewis has come up with 200 pages of the very essence of the community.

“Many people would be surprised to know football has been around Heathcote since 1869, which makes it one of the district’s oldest football communities,” Mr Lewis said.

“The home of football in Heathcote has always been Barrack Reserve and down the years it has seen some great clashes.

“In writing this history I have been fortunate in being able to talk to some wonderful people from across the generations – I genuinely appreciate their time and their generosity with photos and memorabilia.

“Heathcote has indeed been fortunate to have the McIvor Times record its history from the first bounce and it still continues to promote the club through its pages.

“Photographs are also important records for a club and its history and people such as Jocelyn Russell and Alannah Tobin have provided me with some great ones.

“I hope everyone enjoys the book.”

From A Town Divided To A Team United is available for $50 from Bec Dickinson 0447 332 350, Jack Paisley 0408 358 642 or Darren Lewis 0400 533 433.
