Pennant teams suffer big defeats before the break

BOTH of Heathcote Bowling Club’s teams were easily defeated on Saturday in the last round of pennant before the Christmas break.

Division three travelled to Bendigo East needing to win to stay in the top four.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and Heathcote were given a bowling lesson, going down by 50 shots to now be relegated to fifth position on the ladder.

Division six played Kangaroo Flat at Heathcote and were beaten by a massive 57 shots and have now been relegated to the second last place on the ladder.

Division three: Heathcote 72 lost to Bendigo East 122

Brian Taylor 17 lost to C McKean 30

John McGillivray 20 drew with B Perryman 20

Bill Gardiner 18 lost to N Kilby 36

Greg Speirs 17 lost to I Vlaminck 36

Brian Taylor’s team lost the first two ends and trailed by 12 shots after 14 ends. Despite the best efforts by Brian’s team they lost the final two ends and were defeated by 13 shots.

John McGillivray’s team had an even game, leading by only two shots after nine ends. The game remained close with a shot the difference after 20 ends. John’s team won the last two ends to draw the game.

Bill Gardiner’s team won the first two ends but then struggled to trail by 21 shots by the 13th end. Bill’s team battled on, winning the last two ends, but unfortunately went down by 18 shots.

Greg Speirs’ team made a slow start to trail by 14 shots after 13 ends. Although Greg’s team won six of the last 12 ends, they went on to lose by 19 shots.

Division six: Heathcote 72 lost to Kangaroo Flat 129

Eileen O’Brien 13 lost to D Walker 46

Chris Cail 18 lost to R Clark 32

Basil Kapoulitsa 25 defeated I Vogele 19

Denise Anderson 16 lost to N Conboy 32

Eileen O’Brien’s team made a poor start losing the first eight ends and trailed by 21 shots after 13 ends. Eileen’s team lifted to win the next two ends but the lead was too big and the team went on to lose by 33 shots.

Chris Cail’s team started well, winning the first two ends. By the 18th only a single shot separated the two teams.

Unfortunately, Chris’ team then struggled, winning only two more ends and went down by 14 shots.

Basil Kapoulitsa’s team also started well and were ahead by eight shots after 12 ends. Basil’s team continued their good form winning the last end to come out on top to the tune of six shots.

Denise Anderson’s team struggled early to trail by 10 shots after nine ends. Despite their best efforts Denise’s team continued to struggle and were defeated by 14 shots.

Pennant season will be in Christmas recess until January 20, 2018.

Social Bowls:

Due to the very hot weather on Wednesday, social bowls were cancelled.

Social Bowls will be held on each Saturday and Wednesday until pennant resumes.

The jackpot will be $200 today.
