SEVEN ladies played a monthly medal at Heathcote Golf Club on Wednesday on a perfectly manicured course courtesy of superintendent Greg and his equally hard-working volunteers.

The final medal for the year was shared between Joyce Safstrom 106-32-74 and Lynne Fouracre 105-31-74. Carol Stuart took out the NTP 8th hole.

Thursday, December 7:

A total of 14 men took part in the stableford event on Thursday, with Greg Long, on 36 points, taking out first place after a countback from Stephen Hudson.

Ball winners were: Paul Rolfe 35, Tony Hunter 35, Adrian Goudie 35 and Brian Davis 34. Greg Long completed the clean sweep with NTP 18th and the superpin.

Saturday, December 9:

On Saturday, the ladies attacked the course both in the morning and afternoon.

After nine holes in the afternoon session, Amanda Long had both the course and the competition voucher at her mercy.

Amanda boosted her half-way 26 points to an incredible total of 46 to register a personal best gross score of 95. Her new achievements now include breaking through that 100 stroke barrier, beating off the stick all ladies (excepting the club champion) plus a considerable number of men, including a very competent golfer in husband Greg.

Margaret Sims was runner-up with 37 points (winning most days), with Helen Carlins 36 points securing her second runner-up. Tristen Wearne was closest on the 18th hole.

A good field of men took to the course on Saturday for the stroke event that incorporated the final of the McCarthy medal. Several men registered exceptional scores.

The life member and long-time course volunteer Terry Shiels was a very popular McCarthy Medal winner. Terry not only played great golf but his management of the course was most impressive.

His 85-21-64 bettered the unlucky runner-up Alan Stobaus 79-12-67. Alan did however take some solace in being the division one winner.

Ron Blachford also had a day out with his 96-32-64 to secure the division two prize.

Four visitors from Mandalay Golf Club took part and the best of them, Paul Lambert-Williams, won a voucher with 87-20-67.

Ball winners were: Geoff Cutting, Garry Boyes, Dean Jones, Paul Rolfe and Phil Coleman. Birdie balls went to David Clouston and Brian Davis on the 16th; par ball to John Blundell; and David Clouston was the ton-up winner.

NTPs went to Alan Stobaus (13th), Sam Peet a visiting player (16th), Dean Jones (A grade 18th and superpin) and Brian Davis (B grade 18th).

Coming events:

Today: Ladies stroke monthly medal final and Kris Kringle.

Tomorrow: Men’s stroke mid week championships.

Friday, December 15: All-comers 9-hole stableford chicken run 3pm start.

Saturday, December 16: Ladies stableford, mens stroke secret partners.
