A RENEWED Axedale Community Plan was launched by Councillor Yvonne Wrigglesworth on Sunday at the community carols celebrations at Axedale Park.
Cr Wrigglesworth said the plan is the result of considerable effort by the Axedale Our Town Our Future working team and the community carols was the perfect event to launch the revised plan.
“The plan has been developed following a survey of the local community. Axedale Our Town Our Future also provided other opportunities for community members to meet each other and to have their say about what is important for the future development of Axedale,” Cr Wrigglesworth said.
“The new plan is an important piece of work that features a range of priorities and identifies a number of initiatives for the year ahead.
“Initial priorities for the community include advocacy for better public transport and maintaining the attraction and safety of the main town area. Other priorities for 2018 include facilitating opportunities for community members to come together in good-quality flexible spaces and organising larger community events that encourage newcomers.
“A big priority for the community is also the need to be well prepared for a potential emergency and to ensure we have a greater awareness of the needs of vulnerable community members in times of an emergency. Axedale residents are keen to share information and ideas about what community members can do before, during and after an emergency event.
“The goals are in line with those set for the whole municipality through council’s vision to create the world’s most liveable community.’’
Copies of the plan are available from www.axedale.com.au and www.bendigo.vic.gov.au.
Community members are encouraged to learn more about it and get involved in one or more of the action areas.
