HEATHCOTE’S cricket side returned to the winner’s list in the Northern United Cricket Association with a commanding 53-run win over Colbinabbin.
Led by Shane Cox (55) and Joel Condon (31), Heathcote posted a competitive total of 166 at Colbinabbin’s MJ Morgan Reserve.
Heathcote lost wickets early and were looking a little shaky at 4/91 until a 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket from Cox and Ben Connelly (22) steadied the ship.
Heathcote bowlers struck early in defence of the target with Pat Ring, Nick Malavisi and Luke Bell picking up one wicket each to have Colbinabbin in trouble at 3/11.
Tight bowling kept the pressure on and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals denting the Colbinabbin run chase.
Most of the batsmen were unable to gain any traction and apart from Charlie Ryan (39) the rest struggled against the Heathcote bowling attack.
When Ben Harris and Connelly combined to dismiss Ryan, the score was 7/100.
Only 13 runs were scored for the next three wickets as Heathcote wrapped up the innings in convincing style in a great turnaround from last week’s loss to Dingee.
Heathcote remains in third spot on the ladder and travels to sixth-placed Raywood this weekend.
