THIS year’s lighting of the Bendigo Christmas tree in Rosalind Park will feature an outdoor cinema screening before the lighting of the tree.
Held on Friday, December 1, the event will kick off at 6pm, with a barbecue, roving kids’ characters, Christmas carols and a screening of Miracle on 34th Street at 6.30pm.
At the end of the movie, there will be Christmas carols and a visit from Santa, prior to the annual lighting of Bendigo’s iconic Christmas tree.
City of Greater Bendigo tourism and major events manager Terry Karamaloudis said the lighting of the Christmas tree was a much loved community event.
“We have made some changes to the format this year and are offering a performance from Bendigo Carollers, and a summer in the parks outdoor Christmas movie screening for the evening” Mr Karamaloudis said.
“It’s a family friendly movie that we think will appeal to a wide audience.
“Santa will be making his much anticipated appearance and our mayor, Cr Margaret O’Rourke, will do the honours and light the tree with 2017 young citizen of the year Khayshie Tilak at about 8.45pm.
“We encourage residents to pack a picnic and enjoy this free family event and kick off the countdown to Christmas.”
