HEATHCOTE now boasts another service for children: the Heathcote supported playgroup.

Thanks to Heathcote Primary School, Bendigo Community Health Services and Mandalay Resources, Heathcote families are set to benefit from another service for local kids.

This is a specialised service designed in response to an identified need from the community to provide services in a culturally appropriate way.

The service has a specially qualified facilitator whose role it is to engage and support families and their children so that they can enjoy a safe and supportive playgroup experience and to build trust and consistent relationships with parents/caregivers and children.

Bob Beare said the group provides a way for families to make connections.

‘‘This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn to connect with other children and provide social support for the parents and guardians in a safe environment,’’ he said.

Supported playgroup commenced at the start of the term and operates on a Tuesday morning at Heathcote Primary School.

Bendigo Community Health Services supported playgroup co-ordinator Linda Lynch said the organisation was excited to support Heathcote families with this new early childhood initiative.

‘‘It’s so important to help parents understand their role as a child’s first educator,” she said.

‘‘This partnership will create opportunities for increased community connections and deliver information and resources for families.

‘‘Hopefully this can be the beginning of more community partnerships to provide services for families in the Heathcote community.’’
