A GAGGLE of Geese has only been around since February but it is already making a big splash.
The café-bar-restaurant dishes out local flavours, serving local wines, locally made condiments and local tea tonics.
The business has expanded since February – it is now open late on Fridays and Saturdays and offers an ever-expanding all-day menu.
“We’ve extended the menu to offer a lot more than just teas and cakes when we first moved in,” Joan Stammers said.
Joan said the menu was inspired by her father’s Scottish recipes, including the cooked square sausages and potato scones she fondly remembered from childhood.
The cakes, muffins and scones are Joan’s own recipes she invented while tinkering around in the kitchen.
A Gaggle of Geese is the only business in Heathcote to stock local tea tonics, and claims to have the best coffee in town.
The building maintains its historic name as well as some of the building’s historic features.
“It’s a very homely sort of place. It has that country town feel with the brick walls, solid wood tables and chairs and local produce,” Joan said.
When not at the café, Joan’s working at Heathcote Primary school as an education support staff member. And while she is there, her son Matthew takes the reins as manager.
