THE first event of Heathcote Golf Club’s annual tournament was a men’s and ladies 4BBB stableford played on Thursday.

The popular winners of the men’s competition were Kent Davies and Martin Sims with 46 points from John Freestone and Andrew Lang on 44. Daphne Hall and Helen Carlin took out the ladies section with 39 points from Gelma Taylor and Yvonne McDonald’s 38 points. Ball winners were: David Clouston and Brian Davis 43; Joe Zurek and Willie Laird 41; Bob McLennan and Michael Nicholls 41; Margaret Sims and Amanda Long 37; and Dot Trott and Molly McLean 37. NTPs were Gelma Taylor (8th), Adrian King (13th), Bob McLennan (men’s 18th) and Rosemary Monotti (ladies 18th).

Friday, September 8:

The feature on Friday was the Mt Ida Challenge Cup.

A total of 42 ladies vied for the cup and the winners from Gisborne Golf Club with 91 points were Kerry Petersen, Ann Bainbridge-Robb and Angela Alcock.

The Victoria Golf Club team finished in second place with 88 points and the Heathcote trio of Carol Stuart, Tristen Wearne and Dot McGillivray were placed third with 86 points. Carol had the best individual score of 35 points in division one and Robyn McRae’s 34 points took out division two.

NTPs were Rosie Punton (8th) and Stephanie Wearne (18th).

A men’s single stableford was held concurrently with the cup. The men’s event had 10 starters with Bendigo’s Brad Evorall scooping the pool with 37 points and winning NTP at the 13th hole.

Saturday, September 9:

A good field assembled for the two-person stableford aggregate event on a lovely day for golf on Saturday.

Larry Maxwell and Marc Chappell took out the men’s section with 72 points on a countback from A Marchesani and R Fuller.

The mixed/ladies section was won by the Murray and Sue Green duo with 68 points from the mother/daughter combo of Kristy and Jenni Bilkey on 62 points. Kristy also won the 18th hole NTP while Molly McLean was closest on the 8th. Men’s NTP winners were Martin Leahy (13th) and ’Bear’ on the 18th. The longest drive in the men’s was won by Jason Johnson with Tristen Wearne out-hitting the other ladies. Ball winners were: Phil Coleman and Adrian King; Martin Leahy and Aaron Frost; Brad Evorall and S Dean; and Les Dean and T Harvey.

Sunday, September 10:

David Walker from Gardiners Run Golf Club played great golf on a perfect day to take out the 25th Heathcote Golf Club Ivo Whitton event. David plays off +2 and returned two fine rounds of 68 (136 total). Phenix Campbell, playing off scratch at Huntingdale, finished with two 71s (142) to take out the 36-hole nett event. Phenix also scored a hole-in-one on the 16th to complete a memorable day!

The Ladies Susie Tolhurst 18 hole scratch event was won by Piper Stubbs from Waverley with 78. Jenni Bilkey of Bendigo won the nett event with 82-8-74 on a countback from Heathcote’s junior member Molly McLean with 87-13-74.

The men’s NTPs were won by Fletcher Stubbs (13th) and CK Liao (18th) while the ladies NTP winners were Stephanie Wearne (8th) and Tristen Wearne (18th).
