NETBALL stars of the future were in training at the Heathcote netball courts last week.
Some 28 children are involved in the NetSetGo program, which provides children from 5 to 8 years with a positive introduction to netball, incorporating skill activities, music and dance.
The weekly program, held in conjunction with Heathcote Junior Football Netball Club, is coordinated by accredited coaches to ensure all participants have an enjoyable experience while developing the skills of the game. Coordinator Helen Naylor said the children love hitting the court and getting involved with the wide range of activities.
“There is a lack of ball sports for this age group and there are plenty of kids looking for a sport to play,” she said.
“We are happy we had an increase from 14 to 28 participants and we also have some boys in this year’s program.
“It’s all about basic skills of the game like throwing, catching and shooting. We don’t play any competitive games except for the parents versus children in the last session.”
