HEATHCOTE can expect to connect to fixed line NBN between July and December next year.
About 1400 local homes and businesses will join more than 2200 premises on the outskirts of Heathcote and parts of Lady’s Pass, Eppalock, Tooborac, Redesdale, Costerfield, Axedale and Pyalong connected since 2013.
Spokesperson for NBN in Victoria Kasey Ellison said the announcement is exciting news for Heathcote and district.
“Access to fast broadband is designed to provide a range of benefits such as improved opportunities to work from home, better access to online education tools and more options for on-demand entertainment,” she said.
“Businesses will be able to improve their productivity through cloud based sharing with staff and customers as well as have increased opportunities to access new markets through ecommerce.
“It’s vital that people understand that switching to the NBN is not automatic and they need to contact their preferred provider to place an order for their new internet and phone services.”
Ms Ellison said many people were not aware they have a choice in speed of their NBN connection.
“Currently, fixed wireless allows for download speeds of 50 megabytes-per-second (mbps) and will increase to 100 mbps in 2018.’’
