Saints fall in tough contest

Heathcote under-17 player Jye Formosa (centre, right during a 2015 match) was named Connallys Player of the Week on Saturday.

HEATHCOTE’S under 17 football side took on the top side North Bendigo at the Hibo Hotel Oval on Saturday.

North Bendigo started well getting the jump on the Saints by kicking two quick goals. Heathcote responded, kicking the next two but it was North who finished the first quarter in the lead, kicking a further two goals to lead by 12 points.

The second quarter was fairly evenly played, with Heathcote adding three goals to their tally and North a further five.

After half-time both teams showed their class, fighting hard for the ball, with Heathcote’s back line superb under pressure and no chances taken in front of goals.

While Heathcote were unable to come away with a win, the effort they invested and the team work they demonstrated against the top side was terrific.

The final score was:

North Bendigo 11.12 (78) to Heathcote 9.9 (63).

Best Heathcote players: Jye Formosa, Dylan Davies, Jack Brooks, Liam Edwards, Jordan Marcroft, Flynn Pianta-Cook.

Award winners:

Connallys Player of the Week: Jye Formosa.

Leroys Backhoe Award: Dylan Davies.

The Oval Cafe Pizza Award: Jack Brooks.

Job Done Award: Chayce Alexander.
