Quality field for marathon

April 20, 2017

Active Connections' Emma Harris and Active Gloucestershire's Kirsty Dunleavy have travelled all the way from England to bring the prized Wenlock Olympian medals to the O'Keefe marathon.

THE 2017 O’Keefe Rail Trail Marathon from Bendigo to Heathcote will attract a field of champions and athletes, each battling for first place.

In addition to Heathcote’s top athletes, the marathon will feature several interstate and international participants hailing from New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, England and New Zealand.

Winners will be awarded medals from the Wenlock Olympian Society in England, with the event making history as the first marathon outside of England to present these medals.

The major 42km marathon kicks off this Sunday at 7:50am in Jounortoun, with the quarter marathon leaving from Heathcote at 8:30am.

Other events during the day include a 26km marathon from Axedale to Heathcote, the Ekiden relay from Bendigo to Heathcote and a 5km fun run.

The event aims to encourage people of all different ages and abilities to get involved.

While online entries have closed for most events, entries for the quarter marathon, fun run, junior 500m and mile races will be allowed on the day.
