HEATHCOTE Tennis Club has finished the season on top of the ladder despite losing its final round match.
The Redesdale and District Tennis Association kicks off its final series this weekend with Heathcote coming up against second placed Redesdale/Sedgwick — the same team it lost to in round 18.
The final round loss couldn’t knock Heathcote off top spot.
Redesdale/Sedgwick won five sets and 39 games to Heathcote who only managed one set and nine games
Heathcote’s first loss didn’t come until round 12 against Axedale, putting it in an almost unbeatable position.
‘‘Heathcote played well all season and have come out on top which is really great,’’ president Mary Beedle said.
‘‘The next three weeks will be full of finals matches before the grand final on April 1.’’
The competition sees two men and two women play three sets each.
The winning team is the one which wins the most games, not the most sets.
If Heathcote go home with a win on the weekend it will head straight into the grand final and enjoy a week’s break before facing the winner of the preliminary final next weekend.
The association will also celebrate its presentation night on April 1 at the Heathcote Golf Club.
‘‘We invite all past and present players to come along for a great night,’’ Ms Beedle said.
‘‘There will be dinner provided by the Golden Roast and drinks will be at bar prices.
‘‘Cost is $33 per adult, $12 per child.’’
